Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my driver lately, trying to get a bit more distance. I heard that lowering the loft could help, so I decided to give it a shot. I’ve got this adjustable driver, you know, the kind where you can tweak the settings with a little wrench.

I started by grabbing my driver and the adjustment tool. Usually, I play at around 10.5 degrees, which is pretty standard. But I was feeling adventurous, so I decided to drop it down to 7 degrees – a pretty big change!

The Adjustment Process

  • First, I unscrewed the head from the shaft using the wrench. It’s usually pretty straightforward, just a few turns and it pops right off.
  • Then, I looked at the little markings on the hosel – that’s the bit where the shaft connects to the head. It shows all the different loft and lie settings.
  • I rotated the hosel to line up with the 7-degree mark. It’s usually pretty clear which way to turn it, there are often little arrows or indicators.
  • Once I had it lined up, I screwed the head back onto the shaft, making sure it was nice and tight. You don’t want that thing flying off mid-swing!

After I have adusted the driver, I took it straight to the range.

I did notice that it launched lower than I’m use to,so I got it.

Man, it was a completely different feel! The ball flight was way lower, more penetrating. Honestly, it felt like I was hitting a totally different * felt like I was hitting a bullet!

Did I gain a ton of distance?

I would like say I got an extra few yards, the ball definitely seemed to roll out more.

So, was it worth it? Maybe. It’s definitely something I’ll keep experimenting with, especially on windy days or courses with firm fairways.
