Okay, so, get this – I was digging through some old boxes in my attic the other day, right? Just a bunch of junk, mostly. But then, I stumbled upon my old basketball card collection. I used to be obsessed with these things back in the day. As I was flipping through, one card caught my eye. It was a 1990-91 Hoops card of Mark Jackson, you know, the former NBA player and coach. Nothing special at first glance.

But then, I did a double-take. In the background, sitting courtside, were two guys who looked oddly familiar. I squinted, took a closer look, and bam! It hit me – those were the Menendez brothers, Lyle and Erik. Yeah, the ones who infamously, uh, “took care of” their parents back in ’89. What a crazy, unexpected find!
- First, I grabbed my phone and started Googling like mad.
- Turns out, I wasn’t the first one to spot these two in the photo.
- Apparently, some Reddit user had discovered it a while back, and it had become this whole mini-sensation online.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. This particular card, which was basically worthless before, was now suddenly in demand. I saw that some of these cards were selling for, like, 600 bucks online! Can you believe that? A piece of cardboard with a picture of two notorious killers on it, and people were shelling out serious cash for it. That’s wild.
I decided to do some more digging into the whole Menendez brothers case. I mean, I knew the basics, but I wanted to refresh my memory. Lyle and Erik Menendez, born in ’68 and ’70, respectively. Rich family, living the high life in Beverly Hills. Then, in August ’89, they shot their parents, Jose and Kitty, in their own mansion. The whole case was a media circus, with trials and retrials.
Anyway, back to the card. I listed mine online, just to see what would happen. I mean, why not, right? I didn’t set the price too high. And guess what? It sold! I’m not saying I’m rolling in dough now, but it was definitely a nice little profit from something that was just collecting dust in my attic.
It’s funny, right?
How a simple basketball card can turn into this whole story, connecting to a famous crime case and becoming a collector’s item. Just goes to show, you never know what hidden treasures you might have lying around.
