Man, that flying armbar stuff looks so slick when Mighty Mouse does it in fights. I kept rewatching clips thinking “that seems impossible” but figured I’d try learning it myself. Grabbed my buddy who wrestles to help me out, threw on some sweats, and hit the mats in my garage.

First Attempt Faceplant
Started real basic just standing across from my partner. Ran at him, jumped up trying to wrap my legs around his neck like in the videos. Totally ate shit – smacked my shoulder hard on the floor. Forgot you gotta actually hook the arm first before jumping. My buddy was laughing his ass off while I was rubbing my elbow like an idiot.
Breaking It Down Piece by Piece
Next session we slowed way down:
- Practiced just grabbing his wrist super fast
- Worked on shoving his arm across his body so he’s off balance
- Drilled jumping hip-to-hip first instead of going straight for the neck
Took three sessions before I stopped landing on my face every damn time.
The Scary Part
Finally got brave enough to try the full motion. Leaned my weight forward to make him step into me, yanked his wrist sideways, then vaulted my hips up. Wrapped my legs around his head before he could blink. Instant panic in his eyes when he felt my legs lock – he tapped before I even finished twisting his arm. That’s when it clicked why fighters fear this. Once those legs clamp on? Ain’t no escape.
Why It Works
After finally hitting it clean couple times, I realized why this move’s so nasty:
- You attacking while they’re stepping forward – can’t react fast enough
- The arm yank makes them lean right into your jump
- Your whole bodyweight drops down onto their neck joint
Guy basically helps you break his own arm. Brutal but beautiful when it flows.
Funny part? My partner refuses to practice this with me anymore. Says every time I go for it now, he gets flashbacks of his shoulder feeling ready to pop. Can’t blame him – I’d be scared too if some madman came flying at my face like a squirrel on Red Bull.
