Okay, here’s my experience playing and reviewing the Arcadia Bluffs South Course, written in the style of a personal blog post:

My Arcadia Bluffs South Course Review: What I Loved (and What I Didnt).

So, I finally got a chance to play the Arcadia Bluffs South Course. I’d heard a lot about it, mainly that it’s supposed to be a real challenge, kind of a links-style course, but maybe not a true links course. Whatever, I was just excited to get out there.

Getting Ready

First thing I did was book a tee time, which I did well in advance. Heard these courses get super busy. Then i looked at the weather. I made sure to pack some extra layers, because I figured even in decent weather, being near the lake could mean some wind and temperature changes.

The Course Itself

When I got there, the first thing that hits you is just how BIG the place is. The fairways looked wide, but don’t let that fool you. There’s trouble everywhere. Lots of bunkers, and they’re not messing around with those. I mean, deep, strategically placed… you gotta be accurate.

I started off okay, my driver was working pretty well, but then my approach shots got a little shaky. I ended up in a couple of those bunkers, and let me tell you, it took some real work to get out. It’s not just hitting the ball; you really have to think about your club selection and where you want to land it, even in the fairway.

  • Fairways: Seemed wide, but had subtle slopes and rolls.
  • Bunkers: Deep and plentiful. I found a few.
  • Greens: Pretty fast, and some serious undulations. Putting was an adventure.

The greens were another thing. Fast. Really fast. And they have these crazy slopes and undulations. I three-putted more than I’d like to admit. You think you’ve got a read, and then… nope. The ball just keeps going. Or it breaks in a way you totally didn’t expect.

Overall Thoughts

I had some good shots and I had some really, really, really bad shots. All in all, it was fun.

Would I play it again? Yeah, definitely. But I’d probably spend some more time on the practice green beforehand, and maybe work on my bunker shots. It’s a challenging course, that’s for sure, but it’s also a really rewarding one when you do manage to hit a good shot.
