Alright, so let’s talk about these Brawl Stars characters. When I first dived into the game, man, I was just getting clobbered. Seriously, I had no clue what was going on. I’d pick a character that looked kinda cool, jump into a match, and BAM! Wiped out. Over and over. It was frustrating, lemme tell ya.

I quickly figured out that this game isn’t just about running and shooting randomly. Nah, it’s all about the characters, or ‘Brawlers’ as they call ’em. Each one is a whole different ball game. Different attacks, different special moves, different health. It was a lot to take in.
My First Steps (or Stumbles)
So, what did I do? Well, first, I just stared at the character screen for a good long while. So many faces! And they keep adding more, which is cool but also, like, can we breathe for a second? My initial strategy was, uh, not very strategic. I’d pick based on looks. Big robot? Cool. Girl with a giant hammer? Awesome. Turns out, that’s a terrible way to pick ’em. Some of the coolest looking ones, I just couldn’t get the hang of, and I’d get smashed even harder.
Then I thought, okay, I gotta be smarter about this. I started actually reading their abilities. Some are pretty straightforward: shoot a thing, punch a thing. Easy enough. But others? Man, some of them have these complicated mechanics, and you gotta aim just right, or time things perfectly. It felt like I needed a manual for each one!
The Grind of Learning
I actually spent a good chunk of time just going into the training cave. You know, that place where you can shoot at dummy robots? Yeah, I lived there for a while. I’d pick a Brawler, try out their main attack, figure out their Super, and just get a feel for how they moved. It was tedious, not gonna lie. My thumbs would be aching after a while. But I was determined, you know? I wanted to stop being the guy who gets instantly deleted in every match.
I also started paying more attention when I was playing actual matches. Watching what other players did with their Brawlers. Sometimes I’d see someone pull off an amazing play with a character I thought was useless, and I’d be like, “Huh, okay, maybe it’s just me who stinks with them.”

- Some Brawlers, you just click with them instantly. Their playstyle just makes sense to you.
- Others… well, let’s just say I still avoid certain Brawlers like the plague. Too complicated for my simple brain.
- And then there’s the whole upgrading part. You finally unlock a new Brawler you’re excited about, and then you realize they’re super weak until you pour a ton of coins and power points into them. That’s always a bit of a downer.
Where I’m At Now
So, after all that time, what’s the verdict? Well, I’m definitely better. I still have my favorite Brawlers, the ones I feel comfortable with. And I’ve learned that it’s not always about picking the “strongest” Brawler according to some list online. It’s about picking one that fits how you like to play, and the current map and mode, of course.
The whole character situation in Brawl Stars is a constantly shifting thing. They do balance changes, they add new Brawlers, the ‘meta’ (what’s popular and strong) changes. So, it’s not like you learn them once and you’re done. It’s an ongoing process. You gotta keep adapting. It’s kind of a pain sometimes, especially when your favorite Brawler gets nerfed into the ground. But hey, it keeps things interesting, I guess.
My main takeaway from all this practice is that you gotta be patient. You’re not gonna master every Brawler overnight. And it’s okay to not be good with all of them. Just find a few you enjoy, learn their ins and outs, and try to have some fun. That’s what I’m doing, anyway. Still get clobbered sometimes, but hey, at least now I usually know why.
