Okay, so I got really into this whole Bryson DeChambeau driver thing. I mean, the guy hits bombs, right? So I wanted to see if I could tweak my own game, even just a little, to get some extra distance. Here’s how it went down:

First, I Watched a Ton of Videos
I started by just consuming everything Bryson. YouTube videos, articles, Instagram posts, you name it. I was trying to figure out what he was doing differently. It was pretty obvious he was swinging hard, but there had to be more to it than that.
Then I Dug into the Gear
I learned Bryson’s using some pretty specialized stuff. His driver has, like, super low loft. I think some of them are around 5 degrees? Crazy. And the shaft is extra stiff and extra long. This got me thinking about my own setup.
I’m no pro, so obviously I am not going to go full bore Bryson.
So I didn’t make drastic changes with the setting, but I have a driver I can do some adjustment.

Time to Hit the Range
Armed with some “knowledge” (mostly just ideas), I headed to the driving range. My main goal was to focus on a few things I’d picked up from watching Bryson:
- Wider Stance: I tried to set up with my feet a bit wider apart than usual.
- Stronger Grip: I experimented with a slightly stronger grip, turning my hands a little more to the right (I’m a righty).
- Full Body Turn: I really focused on making a big shoulder turn and getting my hips involved.
- Swing Hard: This is the obvious one, but I really tried to unleash, like I was trying to kill the ball.
The Results? Mixed, to Say the Least
First few swings? Awful. I’m talking slices, hooks, the whole nine yards. It felt totally unnatural. But I stuck with it, trying to make small adjustments. I started to get a feel for the wider stance and the stronger grip. The full body turn was the hardest part, it felt like I was going to twist myself into a pretzel.
After a bucket or two, I started to see some improvement. I definitely hit a few that went further than my usual drives. But I also hit a lot of duds. Consistency was a major issue.
My Takeaways
So, did I turn into Bryson DeChambeau overnight? Absolutely not. But I did learn a few things:
- Small changes can make a difference: Even just adjusting my stance and grip seemed to have some impact.
- Swinging hard is only part of the equation: You need the right technique to go with it, or you’re just going to hit it all over the place.
- This takes time: I’m not going to magically add 50 yards to my drive after one range session. It’s going to take a lot of practice.
- And the most important thing I have to do is keep practicing.
I’m definitely going to keep experimenting with this. I don’t think I’ll ever be a long-drive champ, but if I can pick up a few extra yards, it’ll be worth it. I’ll keep you guys posted on my progress!
