Alright, so I went to Oak Island for a little getaway, and you know I had to hit the greens. I’d heard good things about the Oak Island Golf Club, so I figured, why not? I packed up my clubs, grabbed my lucky hat, and made a beeline for the course.
First thing’s first, I booked a tee time online. Super easy, no fuss, no muss. I opted for a 4-passenger golf cart, ’cause who wants to walk 18 holes under the Carolina sun, am I right?
Getting There
- Drove down to Caswell Beach, NC.
- Found the Oak Island Golf Club tucked away on the south side of the island.
The place was buzzing when I pulled up. Guys were milling around, carts were zipping back and forth, and the air was thick with that pre-game excitement. I checked in, got my cart, and scoped out the scorecard. 18 holes, 6,270 yards – looked like a good challenge.
Hitting the Course
- Teed off on the first hole, feeling good.
- The course was in pretty decent shape, a few rough patches here and there, but nothing major.
- Enjoyed the scenery – lots of greenery, some water hazards to keep things interesting.
I started off strong, nailing a few pars, even snagged a birdie on the third. But then, the back nine kicked my butt. I shanked a few, lost a couple of balls in the rough, and let’s just say my putting game could use some work. Still, I had a blast. The weather was perfect, the company was good, and hey, even a bad day on the course beats a good day at the office.
Wrapping Up
- Finished 18 holes, feeling tired but satisfied.
- Returned the cart, grabbed a cold drink at the clubhouse.
- Chit-chatted with some other golfers, swapped stories about our best (and worst) shots.
All in all, I’d say the Oak Island Golf Club is a solid choice if you’re in the area and looking for a round. It’s not the fanciest course I’ve ever played, but it’s got character, it’s challenging enough to keep you on your toes, and the vibe is just right. Plus, being close to the ocean is always a bonus. I heard some folks talking about other courses nearby, like Lockwood Folly and Carolina National. Maybe I’ll check those out next time. But for now, I’m gonna go ice my shoulder and dream of that birdie on the third.
