My Day Out at Cherokee Golf in Olive Branch

Alright, so I finally got around to playing Cherokee Golf Course over in Olive Branch. Been meaning to check it out for a while, just heard bits and pieces, you know? Woke up the other day, weather looked decent enough, so I grabbed my clubs and headed out there.

Getting there was easy enough. Pulled in, place looked pretty straightforward. Nothing too fancy, just a regular golf course vibe. Went into the pro shop, paid my greens fee, guys behind the counter were chill. Got my cart sorted, loaded up the bag. Felt good just to be out, you know? Ready to hit some balls.

Rolled up to the first tee. Took a look down the fairway. Looked pretty open, which was nice. Didn’t want anything too crazy right off the bat. Took a practice swing, felt a bit stiff. First drive… well, it went forward, stayed in play. Good enough start for me.

Working my way around the course, I started to get a feel for the layout. You definitely gotta pay attention out there. Saw plenty of trouble waiting if you got sloppy. There were a few holes where I really had to stop and think.

  • Like, there was this one par 4, dogleg right. Big trees guarding the corner. Had to decide whether to try and cut the corner or play it safe out left. Played it safe. Probably the right call for my game.
  • Then there was another hole with water sneaking up on the side. Stood there on the tee, thinking, ‘Okay, just keep it away from that.’ Aimed way left, haha. Pulled it a bit but stayed dry. Small victories, right?
  • Bunkers seemed like they were placed just right to catch a slightly off shot. Found a couple myself, naturally. Sand was… well, it was sand. Got out okay mostly.

My game was kinda up and down all day. Hit a few really sweet iron shots that actually landed on the green where I wanted ’em. Felt great. Then, of course, I’d follow it up with a duffed chip or a three-putt. That’s just golf, isn’t it? Keeps you humble.

The course itself was alright. Fairways were decent, greens rolled okay. Maybe a little slow on some holes, faster on others, but nothing terrible. It wasn’t Augusta or anything, but it was perfectly fine for a regular guy like me just wanting to play 18 holes.

Pace of play wasn’t bad either. Didn’t feel rushed, didn’t have to wait around too much. Just a steady day out on the course.

Finished up the round, felt like I’d had a proper day of golf. Sweaty, a bit tired, lost a couple of balls, but overall, pretty satisfied. Headed back to the car, tossed the clubs in the trunk. Yeah, Cherokee Golf. It’s a solid course. Nothing spectacular, maybe, but a good, honest place to play. I could see myself going back when I just want to get out and swing the clubs without too much fuss.
