Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get back into golf, and I heard about this place, Weddington Golf. Figured I’d give it a shot and document the whole thing. It was a sunny Saturday, perfect for a round… or at least, an attempt at a round.

Getting There and Getting Started

First things first, I looked up the address and punched it into my GPS. It wasn’t too far, a pretty easy drive. When I arrived, the place looked decent enough. A classic, no-frills kind of setup. I parked the car, grabbed my old clubs from the trunk – they’ve definitely seen better days – and headed inside.

The pro shop was small, but they had the essentials. I paid for a bucket of balls, rented a small cart, I did not bother to buy their tee because I brought one in my bag, and made my way to the driving range.

The Range Experience

The range itself was… well, it was a range. Mats were a bit worn, but hey, I wasn’t expecting Augusta National. I found a spot, dumped my bucket of balls, and started with some easy swings. My first few shots? Let’s just say they weren’t pretty. A lot of topping the ball, a few slices into the next stall. It was clear I was rusty, really rusty.

But, you know, that’s part of the fun, right? The slow, sometimes painful, process of getting back into the groove. I spent a good hour there, just hitting balls, trying to remember the feel of a good swing. I experimented with different clubs, worked on my grip a little, and focused on keeping my head down (something I always struggle with).

  • Warm-up: Started with some easy wedges, just to get the feel.
  • Irons: Moved on to my irons, working my way up from the shorter ones.
  • Driver: Finished off with the driver. A few good hits, a lot of bad ones.

The Course (or Part of It)

After the range, I decided to play a few holes. I wasn’t feeling confident enough for a full round, but I figured a few holes wouldn’t hurt. I walked onto the first tee, took a deep breath, and… shanked it right into the trees. Classic.

The next few holes were a mixed bag. A couple of decent shots, a few more lost balls, and a lot of walking. The course was pretty straightforward, not too challenging, which was good for my rusty skills. I will definitely play there again.

Wrapping Up

By the end, I was tired, a little frustrated, but mostly just glad to be back out there. I packed up my clubs, returned the cart, and headed home. It wasn’t a record-breaking day, but it was a start. And that’s all that matters, right? Weddington Golf? It’s a solid spot for a casual round or some range practice. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. I’ll probably be back, hopefully with a slightly improved swing next time.
