Alright, so I wanted to put together the 2014 World Cup squad for the USA, just for fun, you know? I remember that World Cup pretty well, and I was curious to see if I could still name all the players.
First, I opened up a new note on my phone. Gotta have somewhere to jot things down, right? Then, I started with the guys I was absolutely sure of. Like, no-brainers.
Goalkeepers
- Tim Howard – Obviously.
- Brad Guzan – I was pretty sure about him too.
I was struggling to remember third-string goalkeeper in the squad. so,I did a quick search.
- Nick Rimando – I should add this guy!
Defenders
I knew some of defenders:
- DaMarcus Beasley – He was a given.
I spent maybe 10 minutes trying different combinations of names, and finally got it right. I can remember them:
- Matt Besler
- John Brooks
- Geoff Cameron
- Timmy Chandler
- Omar Gonzalez
- Fabian Johnson
- DeAndre Yedlin
Midfielders
Midfielders were next. I remembered a few right away:
- Michael Bradley- Of course.
- Clint Dempsey- The Captain!
I thought hard and put players who I could remember in list:
- Kyle Beckerman
- Alejandro Bedoya
- Mix Diskerud
- Julian Green
- Jermaine Jones
- Graham Zusi
Forwards
Ok, the forwards. This was the section I am most familar:
- Jozy Altidore- I remembered he got hurt early.
- Aron Johannsson-The young player.
I got stuck * did some searching:
- Chris Wondolowski-Yeah, that rings a bell now!
Finally, I had the complete 23-man squad! It was cool to go back and remember all those players. Some of them I hadn’t thought about in ages. It’s funny how the memories come flooding back when you start digging.
