So, Brock Lesnar as WWE Champion. Man, that always gets people talking, doesn’t it? I’ve been thinking about his runs with the title, and it’s a mixed bag for me, if I’m being honest.

Remembering Brock Lesnar WWE Champion: What were his most iconic title defense moments ever?

First off, you can’t deny the guy’s presence. When Brock showed up, you knew something big was about to go down. He was a legit beast, a real fighter. His matches? Pure destruction. Suplex City, F5s all over the place. It felt different, more intense than a lot of other stuff. And him being a part-timer, well, it made his appearances feel like massive deals. Like, “Oh snap, Brock’s here, the champ is actually defending!” That part, I got.

But then there’s the other side of it. You know, seeing him hold that belt, often for long stretches, while a whole bunch of other talented guys were grinding it out week after week on TV. That’s where it started to get a bit… well, it reminded me of something.

My Old Gig and “The Chosen One”

This is going way back, to one of my first proper jobs. We had this one dude on the team. Let’s call him ‘Kevin’. Kevin was sharp, no doubt about it. Knew his stuff. But man, the bosses just adored him. Anything Kevin touched turned to gold, at least in their eyes. It was like this:

  • Kevin gets all the high-profile projects.
  • Kevin’s ideas? Always the ones that got picked, even if others were just as good, or sometimes, even better fleshed out.
  • Big meeting with the higher-ups? Kevin’s the one doing the talking, even if a whole team worked on it.

It wasn’t that Kevin was a bad guy, not at all. But after a while, it just wore you down. You’d pour your heart into something, work late, really try to make an impact. Then Kevin would swoop in, or his name would just be attached to it, and he’d get all the shine. It made the rest of us feel a bit like, what’s the point of even trying to climb the ladder here? The top spot was always reserved.

And that’s kinda how I felt watching some of Brock Lesnar’s championship reigns. You had these incredible athletes, busting their asses every single night, connecting with the crowd, trying to get to that next level. And then Brock, the part-time conqueror, would come in, win the gold, and then you might not see him or the title for months. It’s like, I get the business side, he’s a huge draw. But for the story, for the other guys? It sometimes felt like they were hitting a brick wall named Brock Lesnar.

It’s a tough one, right? You want those larger-than-life champions, those special attractions. But you also want to believe that anyone on that roster, if they work hard enough and get the fans behind them, can reach the top and stay there for a bit. When it feels like the outcome is always pre-destined for one guy, especially a guy who isn’t even around all the time, it can take some of the fun out of it for me as a fan. Just my two cents, from watching all those years.
