Okay, so I’ve been getting into golf lately, and it’s, like, a whole new language. I kept hearing about “loft” and “sand wedge” but had zero clue what it all meant. So, I decided to figure it out, once and for all.

My “Deep Dive” into Sand Wedge Lofts
First, I grabbed my clubs. I actually have a sand wedge, it was kinda just sitting in my bag. I had no idea about its details or anything.
I started by just, you know, Googling “sand wedge loft.” The results were a bit overwhelming. Lots of numbers and technical terms. Ugh.
- I found some stuff saying most sand wedges are between 54 and 58 degrees. What?! Degrees? Like a protractor from school?
- Then I saw some articles talking about “bounce” too. Another thing to learn… It never ends!
I decided to simplify. I focused on just finding the number on my club. I looked all over it, feeling kind of silly.
Finally, I spotted it! A tiny “56” etched near the bottom. Okay, so my sand wedge has a loft of 56 degrees. Progress!
I went back to the internet, this time searching “56 degree sand wedge.” Much better! Now I was getting information that actually applied to my club.

I learned that 56 degrees is pretty standard. It’s good for getting the ball up in the air quickly from sand traps (hence the name, duh) or for shorter shots around the green.
So, basically, I went from clueless to slightly-less-clueless. I now know my sand wedge’s loft, and I have a general idea of what it means. I still have tons to learn, but hey, at least I figured out this one thing!
