So I kept hearing about this new app called Smartschoolboy9 that’s supposed to help students study better. Then I noticed other companies offering similar stuff – BrainyBuddy and StudyPro. Figured I’d test all three side by side to see which actually works.
Getting Started
First I downloaded Smartschoolboy9 from the app store. Took like 30 seconds to sign up with my email. Then I grabbed BrainyBuddy and StudyPro too. All had free trials – thank god cause ain’t nobody paying for trash.

Set up my kid brother as the test dummy – 9th grader struggling with algebra. Monday we tried Smartschoolboy9 first. Surprise surprise it actually showed him how to solve equations step-by-step, like a teacher standing over your shoulder. The dang thing even caught when he tried skipping steps!
Tuesday was BrainyBuddy’s turn. Looked fancier with all the animations but… big oof. When he messed up 3x + 5 = 20, it just spat out “Wrong!” without explaining why. Kid got frustrated and rage-quit after 15 minutes.
Wednesday fired up StudyPro. Interface looked like it was made in 2005. Half the exercises wouldn’t load properly. When it did work, the feedback was useless – just showed the answer without the working process. Pure garbage.

Next day made brother redo same algebra problems on all three:
- Smartschoolboy9: Actually taught him WHY moving numbers across equals sign flips the sign
- BrainyBuddy: Kept docking points for “slow performance” like it’s some damn video game
- StudyPro: Crashed twice then showed wrong answer for basic equation
Conclusion After Testing
After two weeks tracking his quiz scores:
- Using Smartschoolboy9: Grades jumped from C- to B+
- BrainyBuddy weeks: No change except increased swearing
- StudyPro week: Grades DROPPED cause he gave up entirely
Bottom line: Smartschoolboy9 actually teaches, the others just pretend. Competition’s got shiny packaging but zero substance. Seen too much vaporware in my life – this ain’t it. My kid brother’s keeping the subscription and I’m cancelling those other junk apps tonight.
