Okay, so I’ve been seeing this question pop up a lot lately: Can PGA players actually light up a cigarette on the course? I was curious too, so I decided to do some digging and, well, test things out a bit myself (don’t worry, it was all above board!).

Smoking on the Course: Can PGA Players Light Up During a Round?

First, I scoured the internet. I read through tons of articles, forum posts, and even the official PGA Tour rules (which, let me tell you, are not exactly light reading). It seemed like the general consensus was that, technically, there’s no official rule against smoking.

My Little Experiment

After I did a lot of reading,I decided to check things,I went my local golf course .

  • I asked the staff at the pro shop what their policy was. The guy behind the counter just shrugged and said, “As long as you’re not bothering anyone and you use an ashtray, we don’t really care.”
  • I observed other golfers,Some players smoke, some players don’t.
  • I have found that most players are very conscious about not disturbing others.

So, from my little adventure, it seems like it’s more about etiquette and local course rules than any hard-and-fast PGA regulation. But, times are changing, and a lot of courses are going smoke-free.

In the end, I realized that the answer is kind of “it depends.” PGA players probably could, but they might face some side-eye and potential course-specific restrictions.
