So, I got this itch the other day, thinking about playing some Tekken. Had my Switch right there, figured, why not see if I can get it running on this little thing?

Tekken on Switch: Is it Worth Buying in 2024?

Looking Around

First thing, I grabbed the Switch, booted it up. Went straight to the eShop. You know how it is, just typed in “Tekken”. Typed it slow, just to be sure. Waited for the search results to pop up.

And… well, not much there. Found some videos maybe, some news bits in the news feed section, but no actual game listing for the main Tekken games, like Tekken 7 or the new one, Tekken 8. That was a bit of a letdown right off the bat.

I thought, maybe I missed something? Sometimes the search is weird. So I scrolled through the fighting game category manually. Took a while. Saw Street Fighter, saw Smash Bros, saw Mortal Kombat 1, even saw some indie fighters I’d never heard of. But no Tekken. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

The Hard Truth

Okay, reality check time. It hit me then. The main Tekken games just aren’t on the Switch. Like, natively. I guess the console just can’t handle them? Or maybe Bandai Namco just didn’t bother putting them on there. Who knows the real reason, right? Doesn’t really matter to me why, just that it isn’t there.

It’s kind of annoying, honestly. The Switch is cool for playing anywhere, and I thought a few rounds of Tekken on the go would be awesome. But nope. Stuck playing it on the big consoles or PC, I guess.

What I Did Instead

Didn’t want to waste the mood for fighting games, though. So, I looked at what was available.

  • Ended up downloading one of those Street Fighter collections. It’s alright, classic stuff.
  • Tried the demo for that Mortal Kombat 1. Looked surprisingly good, but different vibe than Tekken.
  • Played some Smash Bros. Always fun, but definitely not Tekken.

It just wasn’t the same, you know? When you want Tekken, you want Tekken. The 3D movement, the juggling, Jin Kazama doing his moody thing. The other games are good, but they don’t scratch that specific Tekken itch.

Final Thoughts

So yeah, my little experiment of getting Tekken on the Switch? Total bust. It’s just not a thing. Kinda wish it was, seems like a missed opportunity. For now, if I want my Tekken fix, the Switch stays in its dock, and I gotta fire up something else. Just how it is.
