Okay, so today I decided to work on my tennis body serve. I’ve been feeling like my serve has been a bit weak lately, so I wanted to really focus on using my whole body to generate more power.

First, I warmed up. I did some dynamic stretches, you know, like arm circles, leg swings, and torso twists. Just getting the blood flowing and everything loosened up. Gotta avoid those injuries!
Then, I started with some practice swings, without the ball. I really focused on the motion: the coiling of my body, the leg drive, and the uncoiling as I imagined hitting the ball. I was visualizing the perfect serve, really trying to feel the correct movements.
Next up, I grabbed my basket of balls and started serving. At first, I wasn’t even aiming for anything specific. I just wanted to get the feel of using my legs and core to power the serve. I was really trying to explode upwards and outwards, to transfer my body weight the racket.
- I really paid attention to my toss. A consistent toss is super important for a good serve, so I tried to make sure it was in the same spot every time.
- I focused on bending my knees. This is where a lot of the power comes from, so I made sure I was getting low enough.
- I try to make my racket swing reach the highest point.
After a while, I started aiming for specific spots in the service box. I was still focusing on the body mechanics, but now I was also working on my accuracy. It’s a balancing act, getting both power and control, so try to keep practicing.!
I finished up by cooling down with some more stretches. My arm was definitely feeling it, but in a good way! I think I made some real progress today. It’s all about that muscle memory, so I’ll keep practicing and hopefully see some improvement in my matches.
