Torrey Pines Golf, oh boy, that’s a big name around here! Heard folks talkin’ ’bout it down at the market. Expensive place, they say. But real pretty, right by the ocean. Fancy folks go there, I reckon. This old lady ain’t never been, but I hear things.
Torrey Pines Golf Driving Range, they got one, you know? Gotta hit them balls somewhere ‘fore you go on the real course. That’s what my grandson, Tommy, tells me. He loves that golf. Wastes a lot of time, if you ask me, but he enjoys it. Says the driving range at Torrey Pines is somethin’ special. Big, lots of space.
They got these things called “bays,” I think. Like little stalls for horses, but for people hittin’ golf balls. Tommy says there’s plenty of ’em at Torrey Pines. You just walk up, get your bucket of balls, and whack away. Sounds simple enough, even for an old timer like me. Maybe I should try it sometime. Nah, who am I kiddin’? My back ain’t what it used to be. I’d be there all day tryin’ to hit the ball.
They got two courses there, too. The North and the South. I hear that the north one is better, more pretty to look at. But I don’t know nothing about that, never been there, just what people say. My grandson, he’s played both courses. Expensive, he said. But he saved up his money. Good for him, I guess. He says the South course is harder. Lots of those sand traps, you know? Gets your ball all stuck. Frustratin’, he says.
First time playin’ there? Well, you better get there early, I hear. Lots of people wanna play, ‘specially on weekends. And them tee times, gotta book ’em in advance. Like callin’ the doctor for an appointment, but way more complicated, I bet. Tommy handles all that for himself. Kids these days, they know all about that internet stuff.
They got a shop there, too. Sell all kinds of things. Clubs, balls, shirts… you name it. Probably cost an arm and a leg, though. Everything at Torrey Pines is expensive, that’s what I hear. But if you got the money, I guess it’s worth it.

What you wear, though, that’s important, I reckon. Tommy always wears them special shirts and pants when he goes to Torrey Pines. No jeans, he says. Gotta look the part. Respect the game, he says. I tell him, “As long as you ain’t wearin’ them short shorts, I don’t care!” He just laughs. Kids.
May is a good time to go, I think. Weather’s nice. Not too hot, not too cold. Tommy says it’s busy then, though. Lots of folks from outta town. They come to Torrey Pines to play golf and see the ocean. It’s a big deal, this place. Even I know that, and I ain’t never left this town in 50 years!
If you’re goin’ to the Torrey Pines Golf Driving Range, you probably wanna practice your swing. Tommy says it’s important to warm up. Stretch your muscles and all that. He does all these fancy stretches before he plays. Looks like a chicken tryin’ to fly. Makes me laugh. But he says it helps.
They got teachers there, too. Golf pros, they call ’em. Teach you how to swing better, how to hit the ball farther. Tommy took some lessons a while back. Cost a fortune, but he says it helped. I guess if you’re serious about golf, you gotta learn from the best.
So, you wanna know about Torrey Pines? That’s all I know. Just what I hear around town. It’s a fancy place, that’s for sure. Expensive, too. But if you love golf, and you got the money, then I guess it’s the place to be. Torrey Pines Golf Driving Range, the courses, the whole shebang. It’s a big deal.
Just remember what this old lady told ya: get there early, book your tee time, and wear somethin’ nice. And don’t forget to stretch! You don’t want to pull a muscle out there.
