Alright folks, buckle up because today’s log is about how I completely messed up planning for this year’s big rig races and nearly missed ’em all. Honestly, it’s a bit embarrassing, but maybe you can learn from my bonehead moves.
The Big Wake-Up Call
So back in January, I saw this hype online about the Truck Race Schedule 2023. I kinda glanced at it, saw the fancy pictures of big trucks flying through the dirt, thought “Oh cool, those look wild,” and then… yep, you guessed it, I did nothing. Just scrolled right on past. Fast forward three months, and my buddy Mike mentions the season opener happening next week. My stomach just dropped. Next week?! No ticket, nowhere to stay, nothing. Total panic mode kicked in hard.
Digging Myself Outta The Hole

- Season Finale Ice Run: Crazy event up north, December! Winter tires needed!
Writing them down physically felt so obvious, but yeah, hadn’t done it before. Lesson number one right there.
Where I Screwed Up (Again)
Got cocky. Thought noting the dates was enough. Wrong! Life got busy, months rolled by, and suddenly that Mud Fest date? Smacked me in the face. Tried to book a hotel close by two weeks before… yeah, no chance. Everything remotely nearby was either triple the price or completely gone. Had to stay an hour and a half away! Spent more time driving than watching trucks churn mud. Total hassle.
Finally (Sorta) Got My Act Together
After that Mud Fest disaster, I knew I had to lock things down for the last three races. Sat down like it was my job:
- Put all five dates on my phone calendar. Not just one place – synced it everywhere. Phone, computer, the fridge maybe? Okay, maybe not the fridge.
- Set annoying alerts. Two months out, one month out, two weeks out. Basically nagging myself constantly. Even my wife got annoyed asking “Is that your truck thing again?”. Worth it.
- Booked stuff EARLY. The minute tickets popped up for the next race, Midwest Mayhem, I clicked buy. Hopped online that same day and found a hotel within 20 minutes drive. Felt like a genius, even though it was just basic adulting.
The Payoff & The Big Takeaway
Sticking to the plan for Desert Dash and the Ice Run felt amazing. Walked right up, showed my pre-paid tickets, parked my butt in a decent seat, soaked it all in. Zero stress. Watching those monsters roar without worrying about traffic or hotels? Priceless.
So yeah, the 2023 Truck Race Schedule was awesome, but finding it wasn’t enough. I learned the hard way: See the dates? WRITE THEM DOWN IMMEDIATELY. Set LOADS of reminders. Book stuff WAY IN ADVANCE. Seriously, don’t be like me. Don’t trust your busy, forgetful brain. Lock those big race dates in stone as soon as you see ’em!
Survived it, loved it, definitely doing it smarter next year. Whew.
