Okay, let’s talk about this “urbanspook horse” thing. I saw it online and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” It sounded kinda interesting, training a horse and all that. I’ve always liked horses, but I’ve never really done anything with them, you know?

So, first off, I didn’t even have a horse. I started by looking around, asking people, and finally found a stable nearby that was selling some. I went there, checked out the horses, and picked one that seemed calm enough. He was around 3 years old, which I read was a good age to start training.
Bringing him home was a whole other story. I had to borrow a trailer from a friend. We managed to get him in there, but it wasn’t easy. Once we got back, I set up a little area for him in my backyard. I made sure he had food, water, and a comfy place to sleep.
The next few days, I just let him get used to the place. I’d go out there, talk to him, and just hang out. I didn’t want to rush things. I read somewhere that you gotta build trust with them first, so that’s what I did.
Then came the actual training. I started with the basics, like getting him used to my touch. I’d pet him gently, talk to him softly, and just try to make him feel comfortable around me. It was slow going, but I could see he was starting to trust me more.
I also tried teaching him to “touch” things on command. I read that this is a good way to get them used to new things and not be scared. I’d hold out my hand, say “touch,” and if he touched it, I’d give him a treat. He seemed to get the hang of it pretty quickly.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were times when he’d get spooked by something, like a loud noise or a sudden movement. I had to be patient and understanding. I learned that horses can be pretty sensitive, so I had to be extra careful.
There was this one time when a plastic bag blew into the yard, and he freaked out. I had to calm him down, show him that it was just a bag, and nothing to be afraid of. It took a while, but eventually, he got over it.
Little by Little, We Made Progress
- I kept working with him every day.
- Tried different things.
- Just spent time with him.
And you know what? It paid off. He started to respond to my commands better. He seemed happier and more relaxed. And I felt pretty good about it too. It’s a rewarding feeling, you know, seeing an animal trust you and learn from you.
So, yeah, that’s my “urbanspook horse” story. It’s not some big, fancy training program or anything, just me and a horse, figuring things out as we go. It’s been a fun experience, and I’m definitely going to keep at it. Who knows what other tricks we’ll learn together?
If you’re thinking about training a horse, I’d say go for it. It’s not easy, but it’s definitely worth it. Just remember to be patient, understanding, and most of all, have fun with it. It’s all about building a bond with these amazing animals. And trust me, that’s a pretty cool thing to do.
