A Day Out on the Green

So, I finally got around to playing the Waiehu course the other day. Heard about it for ages, mostly folks saying it’s got killer views and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg like some spots around here. Decided to just go for it, you know? Didn’t make a big plan, just woke up, saw the weather was decent, and figured, why not?

Grabbed my clubs from the garage. They’re nothing special, been using them forever, but they get the job done. Threw ’em in the back of the truck and headed out. Finding the place was easy enough, drive wasn’t too bad either. Pulled in, and yeah, it felt pretty local, not like those fancy resort courses. More down-to-earth, which I kind of liked.

Walked into the pro shop to check in. The guy behind the counter was friendly, got me sorted out pretty quick. Paid the green fee, felt pretty reasonable compared to what you usually pay on Maui. Didn’t bother with a cart, felt like walking the course.

Getting Started

Stepped up to the first tee. Looked okay, nothing spectacular but maintained enough. Took my first swing… well, let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. But hey, I was out there. Started walking down the fairway. The first few holes were, you know, fine. Standard golf. Some parts of the course were a bit rough around the edges, fairways a little patchy here and there, greens could be faster. But for a muni course, it was alright. You get what you pay for, mostly.

The Views and the Wind

Then you hit those holes closer to the water. Man, that’s where this place shines. The ocean views are just incredible. You’re standing there, lining up a shot, and you’ve got this amazing blue ocean right there. It’s distracting, in a good way. Took a few pictures, had to capture it.

  • The ocean holes were definitely the highlight.
  • Wind picked up quite a bit on that side, made things interesting.
  • Had to really think about club selection with that breeze blowing.

My game was up and down, mostly down if I’m being honest. Hit some good shots, hit plenty of bad ones. Lost a couple of balls. The usual story. But walking the course, feeling the sun and the wind, seeing those views… it made up for the dodgy shots. It wasn’t about scoring low, more about just being out, swinging the clubs, enjoying the day.

Wrapping Up

Finished the round, felt good to have walked it. Headed back to the truck, feeling pretty satisfied. It wasn’t perfect, course conditions weren’t pristine like the expensive places. But for the price, the friendly vibe, and especially those ocean views, I felt it was a solid day out. It’s a real, no-frills golf experience. Would I go back? Yeah, probably. It’s good value and those views alone are worth another visit, even if my golf game doesn’t improve.
