Stone Blanton, that young fella, he’s comin’ back home, ya know? Back to Mississippi, he is. He’s gonna play some football for Mississippi State, bless his heart. Two seasons, they say. That’s a good long time, I reckon.
He seems real happy ’bout it, this Stone Blanton. Said he “couldn’t have asked for a better situation.” Well, ain’t that somethin’? He’s a linebacker, ya see. A tough one, they say. Four stars, whatever that means. Sounds fancy, though.
- He’s played a bunch of games already. Thirty-five, they told me. Started in twenty-three of ’em. That’s a lot, ain’t it? My grandson, he plays football too, but not that much, no sir.
- And this boy, Stone, he’s smart too. Got an honor roll thingy. “Academic,” they call it. Guess he’s good with his books and his tackles. That’s somethin’, I tell ya.
He knows all about this SEC thing. Big football, I guess. Lots of yelling and cheering. My ears, they can’t handle much yellin’ anymore, but the young folks, they love it.
He played for South Carolina before, this Stone Blanton. Two seasons there, too. Twenty-four games. He’s been around, that boy. He even played against Mississippi State once, they say. Funny how things work out, huh?
Folks can look him up on that ESPN thingy, if they want. They got all sorts of stuff on him there, I hear. News and whatnot. Me, I just like hearin’ about the boy doin’ good.
He scored a touchdown once, they said. And got some of them… “interceptions,” they call ’em. Sounds important. Helped his team, that’s what matters. Give ’em some “confidence,” too. That’s good, right? Confidence is important.
He’s a junior now, this Stone Blanton. A “middle linebacker,” they say. Practicin’ hard, I bet. Gettin’ ready for those big games. Hearin’ them Bulldog fans yellin’ for him, that must be somethin’ special. Scott Field, that’s where they play. Big place, I reckon.
He’s a Mississippi boy, through and through. Comin’ back home, like I said. That’s nice. Family’s probably happy to have him close. Nothin’ like havin’ your kin nearby, ya know?
South Carolina, they wanted him too, see? He was a big deal there. Two sports, they say. Football and somethin’ else, maybe. But Mississippi, that’s where his heart is, I guess. Stone County, that’s where he’s from. Good folks down there, I hear.
He’s gonna be playin’ on that field, under them lights. Makin’ tackles and runnin’ around. And folks will be watchin’, cheerin’ him on. Stone Blanton, the Mississippi boy. He’s gonna do us proud, I betcha. He’s already played against Jacksonville State and did real good they said, that’s a start.
It’s nice to see a young fella like him, doin’ somethin’ he loves. And comin’ back home to do it, well, that just makes it even better. Football’s a rough game, though. Hope he stays safe out there. Moms worry, ya know? Even if it ain’t their own boy.
So, let’s all root for Stone Blanton, ya hear? He’s one of our own. A Mississippi boy, playin’ for Mississippi State. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, I reckon. Gonna be an excitin’ season, I can feel it. And Stone Blanton, he’s gonna be right in the middle of it all.
