Alright, so, I’ve been diving deep into NCAA 25’s Road to Glory mode, and I wanted to share something that’s been on my mind: redshirting. I mean, it’s a big decision, right? You’re basically saying, “Hey, I’m gonna sit this one out, but I’ll be back better and stronger.”

So, first off, I started a new Road to Glory playthrough, and I created this beast of a quarterback. I mean, this guy was slinging the ball like a young Tom Brady in high school. But then, I got to thinking about the long game. Do I really want to throw him into the fire right away? Or should I take a step back and let him develop?
I decided to explore the redshirt option. The first thing I did was have a little heart-to-heart with my coach in the game. I went into the coach’s office—well, virtually, of course—and I told him straight up, “Coach, I think it’s best for me and the team if I redshirt this season.”
Now, I’ve heard some people say this can be a risky move. Your coach might not always be on board, and it could affect your player’s morale. But in my case, the coach was surprisingly cool about it. He respected my decision and said he saw the potential in me to make a big impact in the future.
So, what did I do during my redshirt season? Well, I hit the weight room like a madman. I studied the playbook until my eyes were blurry. I practiced with the scout team, and I went against the starting defense every single day. I also focused on my classes and made sure my grades were on point. It’s not all about football, you know? You gotta keep that GPA up.
Here’s what my typical week looked like:
- Monday: Morning practice with the scout team, followed by classes, and then an intense weightlifting session in the afternoon. I ended the day with some film study.
- Tuesday: Similar to Monday, but I also spent some time with the academic advisor to make sure I was on track with my coursework.
- Wednesday: Mid-week was a bit lighter on the physical side. I still practiced and hit the gym, but I made sure to give my body some rest, too. I got a massage, and iced my muscles.
- Thursday: Back to the grind. More practice, more weights, more studying.
- Friday: Game prep day. Even though I wasn’t playing, I went through the game plan with the team and visualized myself making plays.
- Saturday: Gameday! I was on the sidelines, cheering on my teammates and observing the game from a different perspective.
- Sunday: Rest and recovery. I took it easy, watched some NFL games, and reflected on the week.
It was a tough year, I’m not gonna lie. It was hard watching my teammates battle it out on the field while I was stuck on the sidelines. But I knew it was for the best. And you know what? It paid off.
The next season, I came back stronger, faster, and smarter. I was ready to take on the starting role, and I led my team to a conference championship. All that hard work during my redshirt year had prepared me for this moment.
The Payoff
Redshirting isn’t for everyone. But for me, it was the right decision. It allowed me to develop my skills, mature as a player, and make a bigger impact when my time finally came. So, if you’re thinking about redshirting in Road to Glory, don’t be afraid to take that leap of faith. It might just be the best decision you ever make.
