Right, so I was thinking about that Man City versus Arsenal game the other day. You know the one. Always intense, lots of tactics flying about. Proper chess match on grass sometimes. Watching them go at it, the planning, the way they set up… it kinda got me thinking about my own little battleground.

My garage. Yeah, sounds silly comparing it to elite football, but honestly, the chaos in there felt like it needed a world-class manager. Stuff everywhere. Tools mixed with old paint cans, boxes I haven’t opened in years. Just pure clutter. It had been bugging me for ages, a proper mess.
So, spurred on by thoughts of tactical discipline, I decided, right, today’s the day. Operation Clear Out was a go.
Getting Started – The Big Pull-Out
First thing I did? Dragged absolutely everything out onto the driveway. Had to wait for a dry day, obviously. Seeing it all laid bare like that… wow. Honestly thought about just calling one of those skip hire companies and chucking the lot. Felt overwhelming, like facing a City attack when you’re down a player.
Sorting Through the Mess
Next up, the sorting phase. I made three main zones on the driveway:
- Stuff to definitely keep. The good tools, the bike pump that actually works, things like that.
- Stuff to maybe keep, or find a new home for. Old gadgets, things I thought might be useful ‘one day’.
- Pure junk. Broken bits, stuff I couldn’t even identify. This pile grew depressingly fast.
It took absolutely hours. Going through boxes, picking things up, putting them down again. Found some old photos tucked away, which was nice. Also found about five dried-up tubes of sealant. Why? No idea. It’s like my own personal transfer market – deciding who stays and who goes.

The hardest part was being ruthless. That ‘maybe’ pile was tricky. Had to be honest with myself. Am I really going to fix that rusty old lawnmower? Probably not. Into the junk pile it went. Felt good, actually. Liberating.
The Final Whistle – Putting it Back
Once the sorting was done, and the junk pile was suitably massive, I started putting the ‘keep’ stuff back. This time, properly. Got some shelves organised. Hung tools on the wall hooks I bought ages ago and never used. Tried to make it logical, like a well-drilled defense. Everything has its place.
Took pretty much the whole day. Way longer than 90 minutes plus stoppage time. By the end, I was knackered. But looking at the organised space? Felt like winning a trophy, almost. Okay, maybe just the Community Shield, but still a win.
So yeah, that was my Man City versus Arsenal inspired clear out. Less about intricate passing moves, more about defeating years of accumulated junk. Sometimes you just gotta tackle the chaos head-on, right?
