So, I was scrolling through Instagram the other day, and I kept seeing this “LYK” thing pop up in comments and captions. I was like, what the heck does that even mean? I’m usually pretty good with internet slang, but this one stumped me. So, I started my little investigation.
My “LYK” Deep Dive
First, I hit up my younger sister. She’s always on top of these things. I texted her, “Yo, what’s LYK mean?” She just replied with a laughing emoji and then “LYK = Let You Know.” I felt a little dumb, but hey, at least I had a starting point.
Next, I did what any self-respecting person in the 21st century would do: I Googled it. I typed in “LYK meaning” and boom, tons of articles popped up. I skimmed through a few of them, and they all basically said the same thing. “LYK” is just a short way of saying “Let You Know.” It’s used to tell someone you’ll give them some info later.
It makes sense. People are always looking for ways to make texting and messaging faster. Why type out “let you know” when you can just use three letters? I mean, saving those few seconds can really add up, right?
Putting It to the Test
So I start, I did use, “LYK” in some real life scenarios,to test this new information out.
- My buddy asked for the new Marvel movie. I responded, “Not sure yet, LYK.”
- My friend wants know the basketball games. I texted him back, “LYK,after I serach it.”
Feels kinda cool to be in the know, you know? I’m officially down with the kids and their fancy abbreviations. I am one of the young people *, that’s my little journey into the world of “LYK.” Hope you found it, I don’t know, at least mildly entertaining?
