My Little Flag Mix-Up
Okay, so let me tell you about this time I got tangled up with flags. Specifically, the Italian and Irish ones. It sounds simple, right? Green, white, and something else. But yeah, I managed to mess it up.

It all started when I was getting ready for a St. Patrick’s Day thing a while back. Wasn’t even a big party, just wanted to get a few bits and pieces to look festive. Went online, typed in “Irish flag,” saw the green, white, and orange, and thought, “Yep, that’s the one.” Clicked ‘buy’ on a few small flags and some bunting.
Fast forward a few days, the package arrives. I rip it open, all ready to decorate. Pulled out the flags, and something felt… off. The third color, it looked really, really red. Not the bright orange I sort of remembered. I shrugged it off at first, thinking maybe it was just the lighting or cheap printing.
Realization Hits
So, I put one up anyway. My buddy came over later that day, took one look, and started laughing. He was like, “Dude, you celebrating Italy now?” I was confused. “What? It’s an Irish flag!” He just pointed. “Nah, mate. Green, white, and red? That’s Italy.”
I felt like such an idiot. We pulled up pictures on his phone, side-by-side. And there it was, plain as day:
- Ireland: Green, White, Orange
- Italy: Green, White, Red
It’s literally just that one color difference, but man, it makes all the difference. The flag I bought was definitely, absolutely Italian. The red was deep, not orangey at all.

So yeah, my St. Paddy’s decorations ended up having a very confused Italian vibe. We had a good laugh about it, but it was a bit embarrassing. Since then, I actually pay attention. Green, white, ORANGE for Ireland. Green, white, RED for Italy. Simple mistake, easy to make if you’re rushing, but I haven’t mixed them up since. Just gotta look closely at that third stripe!
