So, CJ Watson and the Warriors, huh? Yeah, I remember that guy. Played his part, you know, back in the day. Did his job when he was out there on the court for Golden State.

Funny thing, this actually got me thinking about something totally different that happened to me a while back. I was trying to track down some really old files. Not basketball highlights, but the feeling was kinda similar – digging for something you hope is still there.
I had this old computer, one I hadn’t turned on in ages. I mean, years. And I suddenly remembered there were a bunch of photos on it, stuff from college, early career days, you know, irreplaceable things. So, I thought, no problem, I’ll just fire it up and pull them off.
Famous last words, right?

I hauled the dusty old tower out of the closet, plugged everything in, hit the power button, and… nothing. A sad little click, maybe a fan twitched, but that was it. The screen stayed black. My heart kinda sank. All those pictures, all those memories, just sitting in that dead box.
My Weekend Battle with Old Tech
So, I spent pretty much a whole weekend wrestling with that darn thing. It was a real trip down memory lane, just not the one I wanted.
- First, I thought, maybe it’s the power supply. So, I dug around, found another old machine, and tried swapping it. Nope, still dead.
- Then I figured, okay, maybe I can just take the hard drive out and connect it to my current computer. Easier said than done! It was one of those ancient IDE drives, not SATA. Had to order a special adapter online and wait for it to arrive.
- When the adapter finally came, I carefully hooked up the drive. And… bzzzt. Click. Click. Click. That horrible sound. The sound of a hard drive saying its final goodbyes.
Man, I was so bummed. I tried everything I could think of. Put it in the freezer for a bit – yeah, I know, sounds crazy, but I read it online somewhere. Didn’t help. I even looked into those professional data recovery places, but they wanted a fortune, and there was no guarantee they could get anything back anyway.
It was a slow, painful realization that those files were probably gone for good. All because I didn’t back them up properly back then. We just didn’t think about it as much in those days, or at least I didn’t. You just trusted the tech to work, until it didn’t.
I learned a hard lesson that weekend. About backups, yeah, but also about how temporary things can be, even digital things we think will last forever. It’s like, one day everything’s there, easily accessible, and the next, it’s just a frustrating memory of what you used to have.

So, when I hear a name like CJ Watson, a player from a certain era, it sometimes makes me think about that stuff. Those moments, those files, those players – they were definitely there, part of the story. But getting back to them, or seeing them clearly again after time has passed? That can be a whole different challenge. Sometimes you can, sometimes, like my old photos, they’re just… part of the past you can’t quite get back.
Just a random thought that popped into my head. Happens sometimes.
