Yesterday, I was messing around with some mapping tools, and I needed to figure out how far 1.8 miles was in yards. It’s not something I usually need to know, so I had to look it up.

Starting the Conversion
First, I needed to find the basic conversion factor. After a quick search, I found it: 1 mile equals 1760 yards. Okay, that’s the key piece of info.
Doing the Math
Knowing that, there’s two way to do the calculation.
- The most straightforward thing do multiply 1.8 by the conversion factor 1760.
- Set up a simple proportion.
So, grab a calculator (or use the one on your phone, like I did) and punch in 1.8 times 1760.
The Result
Boom! The calculator spit out 3168. That means 1.8 miles is equal to 3168 yards. It’s actually further than I thought!
It was a super simple conversion, but it’s one of those things you don’t think about until you need it. Now I know, and I can easily figure out similar distances in the future.
