So, the other day, I got this idea to head out to Lake Chelan for some golf. Been meaning to check out one of the courses there for a while. Just one of those things, you know? You hear about a place, and it sticks in your head. Finally, I just said, “Alright, let’s do this,” and called up my buddy, Tom. He was game, so we set a date.

Getting Out There

We decided to drive up early. The journey itself wasn’t too bad, actually. Put on some tunes, chatted a bit. When we pulled into the golf course area, it looked pretty much like what you’d expect. Parking was easy enough, which is always a good start. We weren’t expecting Augusta National or anything, just a decent place to swing some clubs.

Walked into the pro shop to check in. The folks there were friendly enough, got us sorted out with a cart pretty quick. No fuss, no muss. Grabbed a scorecard, looked it over. Seemed like a fair layout, nothing too crazy looking on paper.

Teeing Off and Making Our Way

We got to the first tee. I took a few practice swings, trying to loosen up. My first drive? Well, let’s just say it found the fairway. Tom, he smashed one, like he usually does. And so began our round.

The first few holes, I was just trying to find a rhythm. You know how it is, sometimes it takes a bit to get into the groove. The fairways were in decent shape. I’ve seen better, I’ve seen worse. The greens, though, they were rolling pretty true, which I always appreciate. Nothing worse than putting on bumpy surfaces.

  • The Views: I gotta say, the scenery around Lake Chelan is something else. On a few holes, especially the ones with a bit of elevation, you get these amazing glimpses of the water. Definitely a plus. Makes you pause for a second, even if your game is going sideways.
  • A Tricky Par 3: There was this one par 3, I think it was the 7th, or maybe the 8th. Downhill, water on the left, bunkers guarding the green. I hit a decent shot, landed it on the front edge. Tom, well, he found the water. We had a good laugh about that. He owed me a drink later.
  • Pace of Play: It wasn’t too crowded when we started, so we moved along at a good clip. That’s always a big deal for me. I hate those five-hour rounds where you’re waiting on every shot.

The Back Nine Grind

Made the turn, grabbed a quick snack. The back nine felt a little tougher, or maybe I was just getting tired. My swing started to get a little loose. Had a few errant shots, found myself in the trees more than I wanted. That’s golf, right? One minute you’re feeling like a pro, the next you’re hacking it out of the rough.

We did catch up to a slower group for a couple of holes. That was a bit frustrating, waiting around. But they eventually let us play through, which was good of them. It happens. You just try to stay patient.

My Highlight: Probably a long putt I sank on the 15th for birdie. Came out of nowhere. I just gave it a good rap, and it found the bottom of the cup. Felt good, especially since the rest of my game was a bit of a struggle at that point.

Wrapping It Up

Finished up on the 18th. Shook hands. Tom was already talking about his plans for the next round somewhere else, trying to forget about that water ball. We headed into the clubhouse. It was a pretty standard setup. Nothing fancy, but comfortable enough. We decided to grab a bite and a cold drink.

The food was alright, your typical clubhouse fare. We sat there for a bit, just rehashing the round, the good shots, the bad ones. Mostly the bad ones, if I’m being honest. That’s how it goes with us.

Final Thoughts on the Day

So, Lake Chelan golf. Was it the best course I’ve ever played? No. Was it a bad day out? Definitely not. It was a solid day of golf. The views were a real highlight, for sure. The course itself was challenging enough without being brutal. Staff were pleasant.

Would I go back? Yeah, probably. It’s a good option if you’re in the area and want to get a round in. It’s not trying to be anything it’s not, and I kind of respect that. Just a straightforward place to play some golf and enjoy the surroundings. And sometimes, that’s all you really need, isn’t it?
