Today, I wanted to find out the length of the Indianapolis Speedway, so I did a little digging.
First, I started by looking up some general information about the track. I found out that it’s actually the third-oldest permanent automobile race track in the world, which is pretty cool. It was built way back in 1909, and it’s located about six miles west of Downtown Indianapolis.
Then, I started searching specifically for the length. I saw a bunch of results mentioning the Indy 500, which is obviously the big race they hold there. From what I gathered, the Indy 500 race itself is 500 miles long, which makes sense given the name. But I wanted to know the actual length of one lap around the track.
After a bit more searching, I finally found the answer I was looking for. It turns out that one lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is 2.5 miles, or about 4,023.360 meters. So, the drivers in the Indy 500 have to complete 200 laps to reach that 500-mile mark.
