Alright, so I decided to fire up the old PlayStation 3 again the other day. Been sitting there gathering dust for a while, you know? And I specifically wanted to play some WWE 2K16. Don’t ask me why, just had the itch for some older wrestling action, maybe the Austin showcase mode was calling me.
Getting Started
First things first, had to actually find the disc. Took me a good 10 minutes rummaging through a box of old games. Found it eventually, case a bit scratched but the disc looked okay. Then came the PS3 itself. Had to unplug a bunch of stuff behind the TV to even get the power and HDMI cables connected. Always a mess back there.
Turned it on. That classic PS3 startup sound, kinda nostalgic. Controller was dead, of course. Had to find the USB cable for that too and plug it in. Left it charging while the console did its thing. Took a while to boot up completely. I swear these older consoles test your patience sometimes.
Playing the Game
Finally got the controller charged enough to work wirelessly. Popped the WWE 2K16 disc in. The loading… oh boy, the loading. Felt like forever just to get to the main menu. Guess I’m spoiled by newer systems now.
Once it loaded, I just jumped straight into a quick exhibition match. Think I picked Stone Cold Steve Austin against The Rock. Classic stuff. The controls felt a bit different than I remembered, maybe a bit clunkier than the newer games? Took me a few tries to get the timing right for reversals. Got stunned quite a bit early on.
- The graphics, well, they look like PS3 graphics. Not terrible, but definitely showing their age.
- Roster was pretty cool though, lots of Attitude Era guys I like.
- The crowd sounds were alright, added a bit to the feel.
Played a few matches. Tried the Stone Cold Showcase mode for a bit. That was actually pretty fun, reliving those old moments. The objectives keep things interesting instead of just winning the match. Found myself getting into it, hitting the Stunner felt good.
Wrapping Up
Spent maybe an hour or two on it. Didn’t dive super deep into Universe mode or anything too complex. It was more about just experiencing it again. It definitely scratched that nostalgia itch. It’s not perfect, the loading is slow, and it feels dated compared to what’s out now. But you know what? For a bit of fun on an old console, it did the job. Shut the PS3 down, feeling kinda satisfied. Simple fun, sometimes that’s all you need.
