My Weekend Project Gone Sideways
So, picture this: Saturday morning, I was out in the garage. Finally decided to tackle that old radio I picked up at a yard sale ages ago. Thing looked cool, real vintage, but totally dead. My plan was simple: open it up, see if I could spot any obvious problems, maybe clean the contacts. Easy peasy, right? Wrong.
First, getting the back panel off was a nightmare. The screws were rusted solid. Had to dig out the penetrating oil, let it sit, tried again. Finally got it open, and inside? Dust bunnies the size of small rodents. Spent a good hour just carefully vacuuming and brushing everything out. Then I started looking at the wires and tubes. Honestly, looked like a spaghetti monster had exploded in there.

- Wiggled the tubes. Seemed seated properly.
- Looked for any burnt spots. Found a resistor that looked a bit crispy.
While I was squinting at this tiny resistor, trying to read the color bands, my mind started wandering. Thinking about old tech, how things were built back then. That somehow led me to thinking about old cars, probably because the radio looked like it belonged on a dashboard from the 60s.

Started clicking through the results. Found a few mentions on some old forums, mostly people asking “Whatever happened to…?”. Saw a couple of grainy black-and-white photos, maybe him, maybe not. There wasn’t a whole lot, really. Felt like digging for treasure but only finding rusty bottle caps. It was kind of disappointing, but also intriguing. Made me think about all the stories and people from back then that just sort of fade away if no one writes them down properly.
