So, about this Joao Felix celebration. Yeah, I’ve seen it. And I actually spent a bit of time on it, believe it or not. Not because I’m suddenly a dance critic or anything, but it just sort of happened. And like most things I try to get into these days, it didn’t quite go as planned.
It all started last weekend. My kid – you know how they get obsessed with footballers – was going on and on about Felix. And then he saw the celebration. Next thing I know, he’s asking me, “Dad, can you do that? Is it hard?” And me, trying to be the “cool dad,” I puffed my chest out a bit and said, “Nah, piece of cake. Watch this.” Famous last words, right?
My Grand Attempt
So, my “practice” began. First step: actually study the darn thing. I pulled it up on my phone, squinting at the little screen. Rewound it like twenty times. My wife was giving me funny looks from the kitchen. “Research,” I told her. She just shook her head.
Next up: the physical execution. I decided the living room was a bad idea. Too many breakables. So, out to the garden I went. Felt a bit daft, to be honest, a grown man about to try and copy a footballer’s jig. The kid was there, eyes wide, expecting greatness.
Well, let me tell you. It’s not just a simple pose. There’s a little jump, a kind of twist, and then the actual gesture. My first try? Almost went over on my ankle. Second try, I knocked a garden gnome flying. The gnome, thankfully, was fine. My dignity, not so much. My kid, bless him, was trying hard not to laugh, but a few snorts escaped.
- Observation one: Coordination is key. Something I apparently lack these days.
- Observation two: Professional athletes make things look ridiculously easy.
- Observation three: Garden gnomes are surprisingly resilient.
What I Figured Out (Sort Of)
So, did I nail the Joao Felix celebration? Absolutely not. Not even close. My kid eventually just patted me on the back and said, “It’s okay, Dad, maybe stick to commentary.” Smart kid.
But the whole silly process got me thinking. We see these celebrations, right? They’re over in seconds. But there’s probably a thought process behind some of them. Or maybe they are purely spontaneous. Who knows? And then you see folks online arguing if a celebration is disrespectful or arrogant. It’s just a guy happy he scored a goal, mostly.
My little experiment didn’t make me an expert. It just made my back ache a bit and provided some entertainment for my son. I guess the main takeaway was that some things are best left to the professionals. And maybe I should just stick to cheering from the sofa. It’s safer for me, and for the gnomes.
It’s funny, though. All that effort, all that training these players do, and sometimes what sticks in your mind is a little dance or a pose. Modern football, eh? It’s a whole package now, not just the ninety minutes. Anyway, that was my adventure with the Joao Felix celebration. Not planning on a repeat performance anytime soon.
