So, I heard folks talking about the latest university rankings again, specifically the Shanghai Ranking for 2024. Curiosity got the better of me, as it often does, and I decided I needed to check it out myself.

First thing I did was fire up my computer. Didn’t really know the exact place to look, so I just typed ‘classement shanghai 2024’ into my usual search engine. Seemed like the most straightforward way to get there.
A bunch of results popped up, naturally. I skipped past the news articles initially, trying to find something that looked like the official source or at least a site dedicated purely to the rankings themselves. Found one that looked promising and clicked on it.
Digging into the List
Alright, so I landed on this page. It took a moment to load, seemed like it had a lot of data. My main goal was just to get a general feel for it, see who was up top, maybe check a few specific places I knew.
I started scrolling through the main world ranking list. You see the usual big names up there, which wasn’t exactly a shocker. It’s always interesting to see the order, though. Made me think about how consistent some institutions are year after year.
Then I fiddled around a bit more. I noticed you could look at rankings by specific subjects too. That seemed more useful, honestly. Like, if someone was interested in engineering or medicine, the overall rank might not tell the whole story. I clicked on a couple of subject areas just to see what that looked like.

- Looked at the top global universities overall.
- Checked out the rankings for a specific subject field, I think it was engineering.
- Tried searching for a particular university I was curious about.
Finding a specific university was easy enough with their search function. Just typed the name in and bam, there was its info – rank, country, etc. It was pretty simple to navigate, I’ll give them that. Didn’t get lost in complicated menus, which is always nice.
Spent maybe 15-20 minutes just browsing around. Didn’t do any deep analysis or anything, wasn’t trying to write a research paper. It was more about satisfying that initial curiosity. Saw the list, got the gist of it for 2024. It’s one of those things you check, note mentally, and then move on with your day. Mission accomplished, I guess. It’s just information, right? But sometimes you just gotta look for yourself.
