That Time with Kenedy… Sort Of

Right, so someone mentioned Kenedy, the footballer, and it kicked off a memory for me. Not like I met the guy or anything, just one of those random things you remember.

Why should you watch Kenedy footballer play? Discover the unique skills that make him an exciting player.

I was watching a match ages ago, think it was Chelsea playing. Can’t even remember who they were against, but Kenedy was playing. And, well, it wasn’t his best day, let’s put it that way. I seem to recall he got hooked off really, really early in the game. Like, embarrassingly early. Maybe it was that Newcastle game? Honestly, the details are fuzzy, but I remember the feeling.

The thing is, I was watching this unfold, proper glued to the TV. Then I got sucked into reading all the chat online about it – people going nuts, the memes starting already. You know how it is. Lost track of time completely.

Turns out, I had one job. One job. I was supposed to head out and grab pizzas for me and a few friends who were coming over right after the match finished. We’d planned it earlier. Big match, then pizza. Simple.

But nope. Because I was so wrapped up in the Kenedy situation and the online fallout, I completely forgot. Just sat there, scrolling and shaking my head at the game. Next thing I know, doorbell rings. It’s my mates. Standing there. Expecting pizza.

  • “Where’s the pizza?”
  • “Did you forget?”
  • “Seriously, mate?”

Yeah. I forgot. Total blank. Had to fess up, made the panicked call to the pizza place right then, with everyone watching. Took absolutely ages to arrive because it was peak time by then. We ended up eating super late.

They ribbed me about it for ages. Every time we got pizza after that, someone would chime in, “Don’t let him order it, remember the Kenedy incident?” It became a running joke.

It’s funny, isn’t it? How these players you just watch on telly can somehow, indirectly, end up being part of your own little everyday stories and screw-ups. Never even met the fella, but thanks to him (well, thanks to me getting distracted by him), I messed up pizza night. Just one of those things.
