Alright, let’s talk about what I got up to. I finally managed to sit down and watch the first episode of that new show, Landman. Heard some buzz, figured I’d check it out myself, you know, see what all the fuss was about.

So, I got myself comfortable, grabbed a drink, and hit play. Didn’t really know what to expect, just went in fresh. The show kicks off, and boom, you’re right there in West Texas. Lots of dust, big skies, oil rigs – they really set the scene straight away. Felt pretty authentic, I gotta say.

First Impressions Watching It

My first thought was, okay, this feels familiar territory if you’ve seen some of Taylor Sheridan’s other stuff. Gritty, kinda tough world. Billy Bob Thornton is playing the main guy, Tommy Norris. He comes across as this sharp, maybe a bit ruthless, oil company man. Seen it all, done it all type. He definitely commands attention when he’s on screen.

The story started unfolding, setting up the world these characters live in. It’s all about the oil business, land deals, the money, and the power plays involved. Seemed like they were laying down the different pieces, introducing who’s who in this dusty landscape. There’s this younger guy too, kinda learning the ropes, which gives you someone to see this world through.

What really stuck with me was:

  • The overall atmosphere – really captures that rough, boom-or-bust feel of the oil fields.
  • Billy Bob Thornton’s character – he’s got that presence, you know? Makes you want to see what he does next.
  • The feeling that big things are at stake – you can tell there’s gonna be conflict and tough decisions down the line.

I remember this one scene, I think it was some kind of tense meeting or negotiation. Didn’t catch all the details, but you could feel the pressure in the room. That’s the kind of stuff that pulls me in – seeing how people handle themselves when things get heated.

It wasn’t like, non-stop action or anything. Felt more like a slow burn, setting up the board, you know? Introducing the players and the conflicts. Sometimes you gotta build that foundation. Took me a little while to get fully hooked, but by the end of the episode, I was definitely interested.

So yeah, that was my experience watching episode one. Felt like a solid start. It laid out the world, introduced some potentially interesting characters, and hinted at the drama to come. I’m curious enough to stick around and see where they take it. Gonna make sure I catch the next episode to see how things develop for Tommy and the crew out there in the oil patch. Definitely felt like I spent an hour in a different world.
