Well, let me tell you, these Steelers, they’re somethin’ else. They got these jerseys, see? And some of ’em, they ain’t lettin’ nobody wear ’em no more. They call that “retired.”

Now, I heard they only got three of them retired jerseys. Just three! You’d think with all them players they had over the years, they’d have a whole bunch more. But nope. Just three. One of ’em is number 70. Some fella named Ernie Stautner, they say he was a big deal back in the day. I don’t know him, never met him, but I hear his name all the time.
Steelers Retired Jerseys: Only Three!
Then there’s number 75, that’s for Joe Greene. Now, he’s a name I heard a lot. They used to call him “Mean” Joe Greene. Probably wasn’t too nice on the field, I reckon. But folks sure do love him. They say he was one of the best they ever had. These Steelers retired jerseys, they mean a lot to folks around here.
- Number 70 – Ernie Stautner
- Number 75 – Joe Greene
- Number 32 – Franco Harris
And then there’s number 32. That was Franco Harris. He was a good one, too. I remember watchin’ him play, runnin’ that ball all over the field. He was somethin’ to see, that Franco. I always liked watching the games when he was playing. I heard they just retired his jersey not too long ago. It’s about time, I say.
They got all these other fellas, though, who played for the Steelers. Good players, too. Like that number 12, Terry somethin’ or other. And number 58, Jack Lambert, I think. He was a tough one, that Jack. And they got a bunch more. I can’t remember all their names, but there’s a whole lot of ’em.
Why Not More Steelers Retired Jerseys?
But they ain’t retired their numbers. I don’t know why. Maybe they just don’t retire that many. Maybe they figure three is enough. I don’t know how they decide these things. Seems like they could retire a few more, though. I mean, those boys worked hard. They deserve it, don’t they?

Those Steelers retired jerseys, they’re hangin’ up there somewhere in that big stadium they got. I ain’t never been there myself, but I seen it on the TV. Looks like a fancy place. They got that big screen and all them people yellin’ and hollerin’. It’s a sight, I tell ya. These retired jerseys are a part of that team’s history.
I guess it’s a big honor, havin’ your number retired. Means you were somethin’ special. Means nobody else is gonna wear that number for the Steelers. Ever. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? It’s like you’re always gonna be a part of the team, even when you ain’t playin’ no more. These Steelers retired numbers are a big deal, you know?
Steelers Retired Numbers: A Big Honor
So, yeah, those Steelers retired jerseys, they’re a big deal around here. Folks talk about ’em all the time. They remember those players and what they did for the team. And they’re proud of ’em. Proud to have ’em representin’ the Steelers. Even if it’s just three of ’em so far, they are important. Those Pittsburgh Steelers former players, they made history.
I reckon that’s all I got to say about that. It’s just somethin’ I been hearin’ about, and I thought I’d share it with you. Those numbers, 70, 75, and 32, they’re special numbers. They belong to the Steelers, and they ain’t never gonna be forgotten. And you know, I heard they got a new display for them retired jerseys. I seen it on the TV the other day. Looks real nice. They sure do love their football here.
They have some rules about these numbers too. I heard that they don’t let just anyone wear certain numbers anymore. These Steelers retired numbers, they’re special, you see. Like number 1, nobody wore that since some guy named Gary Anderson. Then they made a rule that some players can’t wear single numbers, I don’t understand it all, but that’s what I heard. The people here sure are proud of the team, those Pittsburgh Steelers.
