Okay, so I had this idea to get from Austin to Merida. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, let me tell you, it turned into a bit of an adventure.
First things first, I started looking at flights. I checked out all the usual websites, you know, the big-name ones. Man, those prices were all over the place! One minute it’s a steal, the next it’s like, “Are you kidding me?” So, I dug a little deeper. Tried some of those budget airlines.
Flights are a mess
- Found a couple of options, but they had these crazy layovers. Like, who wants to spend 12 hours in some random airport? Not me!
- Figured I’d be flexible with my dates. Played around with the departure and return days a bit. That helped some, but still wasn’t great.
Then, I thought, “Maybe there’s a better way.” I remembered a friend telling me about these travel agents who specialize in Mexico trips. Decided to give one a call. Talked to this really nice lady, she listened to what I wanted and started searching.
A little help from someone
- She came back with a few options that were way better than anything I found online.
- One of them was a direct flight! No layovers, straight shot to Merida. And the price? Let’s just say it was a lot more reasonable.
So, I booked it. Felt pretty good about the whole thing. The agent even helped me with some tips on what to do in Merida.
Finally, in Merida
- Arrived in Merida, and it was amazing! The city is beautiful, the people are friendly, and the food… oh man, the food is incredible.
- Spent a week exploring, visited some Mayan ruins, swam in cenotes, and just soaked up the culture.
- It was such a great trip, and I’m so glad I didn’t give up when the flights were looking rough.
Honestly, it was a bit of a pain to plan at first, but totally worth it in the end. Sometimes, you just gotta keep looking, try different things, and maybe even ask for help. You never know what you might find!
