So, I finally made it out to Deer Brook Golf Club. I’d heard some chatter about it, and man, I was itching to see what the fuss was all about. I loaded up my clubs, grabbed a buddy, and we hit the road. This place isn’t too far from Shelby, so the drive wasn’t bad at all.

We rolled up to 201 Deerbrook Dr and got checked in. First thing I noticed? The views are killer. I mean, seriously beautiful scenery. It really sets the mood for a good round. The staff were pretty chill, too. No stuffy country club vibes here, just friendly folks who seemed genuinely happy to see us.
Getting on the Course
We teed off, and right away, I could tell this wasn’t going to be a walk in the park. Deer Brook has some teeth. It’s challenging, no doubt about it, but it’s also fair. You gotta think your way around this course. It made me use every club in my bag, that’s for sure. I heard that it was good for every skill level, I think I can agree with it.
- First hole: A par 4 that doglegs to the right. I tried to cut the corner and ended up in the rough. Lesson learned.
- Middle game: There’s a par 3 over water that’s just begging you to dunk one. I managed to stay dry, but my buddy wasn’t so lucky.
- Back nine: The fairways get a bit tighter, and the greens are slick. You gotta have your short game dialed in, or you’re gonna be in for a long day.
The fairways and greens were in great shape. You could tell they put some serious work into maintaining the place. It’s not easy keeping a course in top condition, so kudos to the grounds crew.
Wrapping Up
After we finished up, we grabbed a bite at the clubhouse. The food was solid, nothing fancy, but it hit the spot after a long day on the links. We sat out on the patio and soaked up the last bit of the scenery. It was a good day, all around.
I’d definitely recommend Deer Brook to anyone looking for a good round of golf. It’s challenging but not frustrating, and the views are top-notch. Plus, the staff are cool, and the prices are reasonable. I saw something online about discount tee times, so that’s worth checking out. Oh, and a tip, go early in the morning. It’s probably the best time, especially if it’s a weekday.

I’ll definitely be back. I’ve got a score to settle with that par 3 over the water. I’m thinking of practicing with 7-8 minute tee times then 9, 10, and 12 minute tee times later. Until next time, Deer Brook!
