I stumbled upon this nickname “Lumpy” for a PGA player the other day and got curious. Turns out, it’s Tim Herron’s moniker. So I did a little digging, you know, just to satisfy my own curiosity.

First, I looked up who this “Lumpy” guy was. Turns out his name is Tim Herron. Apparently, he was given this nickname, and it kind of stuck. He’s a Minnesota guy, born and raised. That’s cool, I like these small-town stories.
Getting to know “Lumpy”
I checked out his stats, and the guy has four PGA Championship wins. Not too shabby. You’d think with a nickname like “Lumpy”, he might not be taken seriously, but four wins? That’s legit.
- The Honda Classic in 1996, as a rookie.
- He’s a Minnesota guy!
- Four-time PGA winner.
Social Media Shenanigans
Next, I decided to see if he was on social media. Found his Twitter profile. Calls himself @PGALumpy. How cool is that? It looks like he’s really embraced the nickname.
His bio says he “led the tour in backspin and follow-through in 2008.” I’m not a huge golf stats guy, but that sounds pretty impressive. I guess you don’t get four PGA wins by being average.
Deeper Dive
Then I found something even more interesting, he’s been living in Tacoma for over thirty years. He grew up in Spokane, but now his family is in Tacoma. That is a long way from home.
It’s always cool to see these personal sides of athletes. It’s a lot of digging, I know, but I found it interesting to know he’s living with his wife who is a public elementary teacher and they are having a great family life.
So yeah, that’s my little deep dive into Tim “Lumpy” Herron. You never know what you’ll find when you start poking around on the internet. I started by just reading some random article about “Saturday Night Live” taking shots at Tiger Woods, and suddenly I’m learning about this “Lumpy” guy’s whole career. Wild, right?
