Okay, so let me tell you about my day out at Southern Highlands Golf Club. Figured I’d jot down what went down, kinda like a little diary entry, but, you know, for golf.

Started early, real early. Woke up at the crack of dawn, which I hate, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Threw on my golf gear, grabbed my clubs – the usual suspects – and headed out. Driving there, the sun was just starting to peek over the horizon, making everything look all golden and whatnot. Actually felt kinda motivated, if I’m being honest.
Got to the club, and it was pretty swanky. You could tell it was one of those fancy places. Checked in, got my cart, and headed over to the practice range to warm up. I always spend a good chunk of time here. Loosened up my swing, hit a bunch of balls, tried to get my head in the game. My driver was feeling kinda wonky, but my irons were singing, so I figured I was in for a decent day.
Teed off on the first hole, a par 4. Hit a decent drive, right down the middle of the fairway. Felt good! Then, my approach shot… well, let’s just say it wasn’t my finest moment. Ended up in the rough, had to hack it out, and ended up with a bogey. Not the start I was hoping for, but hey, plenty of golf left.
The next few holes were a mixed bag. A couple of pars, a birdie (finally!), and a few more bogeys. My putting was atrocious. I swear, the ball had a vendetta against the hole. Missed a few easy ones that I should have sunk. Really frustrating stuff.
The back nine was where things started to get interesting. The course got a lot tougher, with more hazards and tighter fairways. I had a double bogey on the 12th after hitting my ball into the water. Ugh. But then, I managed to bounce back with a string of pars. My mental game was actually holding up, which is rare for me.

Came to the 18th, a long par 5. Needed a good finish to salvage the round. Hit a solid drive, then a decent second shot. But my third shot, the approach, was a beauty! Landed it about 10 feet from the pin. Had a chance for an eagle. Lined it up, took a deep breath, and… missed! Tapped in for a birdie. Not an eagle, but still a good way to end the day.
Finished the round with a score of 85. Not my best, but not my worst either. Could have been better, especially with the putting. But overall, it was a solid day of golf. The course was beautiful, the weather was perfect, and I got to spend a few hours out in the sun, whacking a little white ball around. Can’t complain too much, right?
After the round, grabbed a beer at the clubhouse and chilled for a bit. Talked some smack with the other golfers, you know, the usual stuff. Headed home feeling tired but satisfied. Gonna hit the range again next week and work on my putting. Gotta get that sorted out.
All in all, a good day at Southern Highlands. Would definitely recommend it if you’re ever in the area. Just be prepared for a challenge!
