Okay, so I got this idea the other day – I wanted to figure out just how many Pokemon cards there are out there. It’s a bit crazy, right? I mean, we’ve all seen them, maybe collected a few, but the sheer number of them is just mind-blowing. So I decided to do a bit of digging.

I started by just looking around online. You know, the usual – forums, collector sites, that kind of thing. It was a bit overwhelming at first. So many people talking about different sets, different editions, special cards… it was a lot to take in.
Then I thought, okay, I need to be a bit more organized about this. I made a list of all the sets I could find. It started off pretty small, just the base sets and a couple of the early expansions. But then I kept finding more and more. It was like peeling an onion, you know? Every time I thought I had them all, another one would pop up.
- First, I listed the main sets, like the original Base Set, Jungle, Fossil, all those classics.
- Then came the newer ones, like Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon, and all their expansions.
- And don’t even get me started on the special sets, like the promotional cards and the Japanese exclusives!
I spent hours on this, seriously. My browser was full of tabs, my notebook was filled with scribbled notes, and I was starting to see Pokemon cards in my dreams. It was intense, but also kind of fun, in a weird way. Like a treasure hunt, you know?
After all that digging, I found out the number: roughly 13,429 cards as of now. Can you believe it? Thirteen thousand! And that’s not even counting the new ones that are sure to come out.
It was a wild ride, but I’m glad I did it. Now, whenever someone asks me about Pokemon cards, I can hit them with that number and watch their jaws drop. It’s a pretty cool party trick, if I do say so myself.
