Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Babe Ruth. Folks say he could hit a ball a country mile, and I reckon they ain’t lyin’. Heard tell of him smackin’ balls all over the place, even into a pond full of them gator critters down in Arkansas! Can ya believe that? Them gators probably thought it was supper time!

Now, they been talkin’ ’bout this Babe Ruth fella for a long, long time. Even had a big to-do down in Tampa, somethin’ ’bout a hundred years since he hit one outta the park. Don’t rightly know what all the fuss is about, but folks sure do love their baseball.
This Babe Ruth and his Home Runs
Some folks get all worked up ’bout how many home runs he coulda hit if things were different. Said he used to be a pitcher, ya know, throwin’ the ball instead of hittin’ it. And they changed the rules some too, I hear. But they say he hit 714 home runs, that’s a whole lotta balls flyin’ outta the park! Makes ya wonder how many windows he broke.
- He hit a lot of balls
- Folks say he was the best
- He played for the Yankees, I think
I heard a story ’bout him holdin’ that ol’ wooden bat, feelin’ the cool air. Musta been a sight to see him standin’ up there, ready to knock the stuffin’ outta that ball. They say he hit the ball so hard, and so far, .690 they call it, somethin’ ’bout a record. Don’t know what it means, but it sounds fancy.
Way back when, on St. Patrick’s Day, they say he was pitchin’ in some spring trainin’ game. But then they needed someone to bat, and wouldn’t ya know it, this fella, who wasn’t even supposed to be a hitter, he just belts one outta there! Guess that’s when they figured out he was pretty good at hittin’ too.

Now, they talk about this one home run, the longest one he ever hit. Happened way back in 1919, in a game between them Red Sox and Giants fellas. They say it went 587 feet! Can ya imagine that? That’s like walkin’ across a whole field, maybe two! To give you an idea, that’s more than a whole football field and then some.
He was a fast runner too, they say. Stole home ten times in his career. And all them home runs, 714 they say. That’s a lot of runnin’ around them bases. Musta been tired after all that.
Some folks even say he could call his shots, pointin’ where he was gonna hit the ball. Don’t know if I believe all that, but it makes for a good story. He played for a long time, 22 seasons they say. That’s a lotta baseball games.
The Babe Ruth’s Legacy
For a long time, he was the king of home runs, nobody could touch him. Then, this other fella, Hank Aaron, came along and broke his record. But folks still remember Babe Ruth. He was somethin’ special, that’s for sure.

They even made a movie ’bout him, but I heard they got some things wrong. Said he hit a home run without even leavin’ the infield, and that ain’t true. And they said he went to see some sick kid in the hospital, promised him a home run, but that ain’t how it happened neither. Hollywood, always makin’ things up!
So, that’s what I know ’bout Babe Ruth and his long home runs. He was a hitter, that’s for sure. Hit ’em far and hit ’em often. And folks still talkin’ ’bout him all these years later. Musta been somethin’ to see him play.
