Alright, so I wanted to see just how fast I could run the 60-yard dash. You know, just to see where I stand. I’ve been hitting the gym a bit more lately, and felt like I was getting quicker, so why not put it to the test?

First, I did some quick searching online. I found that the fastest 60-yard dash in MLB is something crazy like 5.98 seconds. That’s by Carl Lewis, back in 1983. Seriously, 5.98 seconds! Nobody has beaten that yet. Then there’s some guy, Calabasas, who did it in 6.15 seconds. Still insane! It also mentioned that things like age and gender play a role. Well, duh, I’m not exactly in my prime anymore, so I knew I wasn’t going to touch those records.
Anyway, I headed out to the local track. It was a pretty nice day, not too hot, not too cold. Warmed up with some light jogging and stretches, you know, the usual. Didn’t want to pull anything trying to be a speed demon.
I set up my phone to record, just in case I did anything remotely impressive. I mean, you gotta have proof, right? Then I lined up at the start, took a deep breath, and took off.
- First attempt: Felt pretty good out of the blocks, but I could feel myself slowing down towards the end. Checked the timer: 9.2 seconds. Not great, not terrible.
- Second attempt: Tried to focus on my form, keeping my strides long and powerful. Felt a bit faster, more fluid. The result: 8.8 seconds. Okay, we’re getting somewhere!
- Third attempt: I was starting to feel it in my legs, but I gave it one more go. Really pushed myself this time. Finished, looked at the timer: 8.5 seconds.
So, 8.5 seconds was my best time. Obviously, I’m no professional athlete, but I was pretty happy with that. It’s definitely a good starting point. I realized I need to work on my stamina, though. That last bit of the dash is where I really lost steam.
What I’m Going to Do Next
I’m thinking of incorporating some sprint drills into my workouts. Maybe some interval training to build up my endurance. I also read that working on your start can make a big difference, so maybe I’ll practice that too. It’s all about those explosive first few steps. Overall, it was a fun little experiment. I’ll keep at it and see if I can shave off a few more milliseconds. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll break 8 seconds!
