This Arland Bruce, I tell ya, that boy sure can run! He’s like a rabbit, all fast and jumpy. Used to see him play football. Shoot, he was somethin’ else on that field. Arland Bruce, that’s the name, don’t you forget it.
He was playin’ for some big team, I reckon. Lots of folks watchin’ him. They say he’s a professional now. He must be makin’ good money, playin’ that football. Good for him, I say. That Arland Bruce, he’s made somethin’ of himself.

He got in some trouble, though. I heard somethin’ about bettin’ or gamblin’. He was at that big school. University of something. He can’t play this year, they said. He’s grounded, like when my grandson gets in trouble, cept he can’t play no football.
I saw somethin’ about him on that there computer machine. People puttin’ their whole lives on there, I swear. There are four Arland Bruce on that thing. Can you believe it? Four of ’em! But our Arland Bruce, he’s the football one.

You can buy all sorts of things on that computer, too. Clothes and toys and things for your house. They call it “online shoppin’.” I saw a thing that said “AliExpress” or somethin’. Lots of stuff on there. Arland Bruce probably shops on there, too. He’s got money now, playin’ that football.
They say this Arland Bruce does somethin’ with computers. Makes programs, they call ’em. And somethin’ about marketin’. I don’t know nothin’ about that. I just know he can run fast. He was always a good boy, that Arland. Just got mixed up in that gamblin’ stuff, I guess.
I remember him as a little tyke, runnin’ around. Now he’s all grown up, playin’ on the TV. Time sure does fly, don’t it? That Arland Bruce, he’s all over the place now. On the TV, on the computer, even in Canada, they say!

They got some kind of Hall of Fame up in Canada. For football, I reckon. Sounds fancy. Maybe Arland Bruce will be in that someday. He’s good enough, that’s for sure. He can run like the wind, that boy. Arland Bruce, they call him.

Arland Bruce, Remember the Name
Well, I gotta go. Need to get my wash done. But you remember that name. Arland Bruce. He’s one to watch. Even if he ain’t playin’ right now, he’ll be back. He’s too good to stay down for long. Mark my words, that Arland Bruce, he’s goin’ places.
He used to play for Iowa. That place with all the corn. He was good there, too. But then that trouble came. Suspension, they called it. Sounds serious. Hope Arland Bruce learned his lesson. Gamblin’ ain’t no good. Gets you in all sorts of trouble. This Arland Bruce, I hope he’s learned that now.
This computer stuff is all beyond me. But I reckon it’s important. They say this Arland Bruce does somethin’ with computers, too. Software, they call it. Sounds complicated. I just stick to my garden. That’s all the software I need. Tomatoes and beans and such. Keeps me busy enough.
My grandson, he’s always on that computer. Playin’ games, mostly. Maybe he’ll be like Arland Bruce someday. Playin’ football and workin’ on computers. He’s a good boy, my grandson. Just like Arland used to be. Before the trouble, that is.
This online shoppin’ thing is somethin’ else, too. You can buy anything on there. Even things for your car. I saw that on that AliExpress thing. Millions of things, they say. Too much for me. I just need a few things from the store down the road. But this Arland Bruce, he probably uses it. He’s modern, you know. With his football and his computers.
I hope that boy straightens up. This Arland Bruce. He’s got talent. A real gift. He could be somethin’ special. If he just stays outta trouble and keeps playin’ that football. I am rootin’ for him. That’s for sure.
