Okay, so, I’ve been itching to see what the Kawasaki Ninja 500 could really do. I mean, they say it’s a beast in the sub-500cc class, and, man, I had to find out for myself. I’ve got a bit of a thing for speed, you know, Land Speed Racing background and all that, so I was really curious about this bike’s top speed.

First things first, I got my hands on a 2024 Ninja 500. This thing is powered by a 451cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. Kawasaki says it can pump out 51 horsepower at 10,000 rpm and about 31.7 lb.-ft. of torque at 7,500 rpm. Sounds good on paper, right? But I wanted to see it in action.
I started by just riding it around, getting a feel for the bike. It’s pretty lightweight and handles like a dream. Then, I took it to a long, straight stretch of road where I could really open it up. I mean, where else are you going to test top speed, right? Gotta make sure it is safe though.
- Phase 1: The Warm-Up
- Phase 2: Pushing the Limits
- Phase 3: The Top Speed Run
I started slow, gradually increasing the speed, getting a feel for how the bike responded. The acceleration was smooth, and the engine purred like a kitten… a very powerful, fast kitten.
Once I was comfortable, I really started to push it. I wanted to see how far it could go into the red zone before hitting the limiter. They say Kawasaki tachs can be off by up to 500 rpm, so I was really paying attention to the numbers.
This was it. I crouched down, reducing wind resistance as much as possible, and opened the throttle all the way. The bike roared, and the speedo climbed quickly. It was exhilarating, to say the least.

Now, according to some online specs, they say this bike is geared for about 111 mph at an 11,000 rpm redline. I’ve also seen some people online saying they hit 115 at 9,000 rpm. Some even claimed to reach 118.5 mph in 6th gear at 9,500 RPM. There are also claims of speedometer errors as high as 7%.
The Result
I managed to push the bike to what felt like its limit. The speedo needle was hovering around the 110 mph mark. I think it was really close to the red line. The engine was screaming, and the wind was whipping past me like crazy. It was intense, but, man, was it fun!
I tried a few runs, and the results were pretty consistent. This bike can definitely move. The speedometer might be a bit off, but it was easy to reach that 110 mark every time.
So, there you have it. My little experiment with the Kawasaki Ninja 500’s top speed. It’s a powerful, responsive, and seriously fun bike to ride. If you’re into speed and looking for a thrilling ride, this bike definitely delivers. Just remember to always ride safe and within your limits. And, you know, maybe don’t try this on your daily commute. Until next time, keep the rubber side down, folks!
